I'm Jack, a Pittsburgh-based reporter covering my hometown.
My work appears in TribLive as I criss-cross the Alle-Kiski Valley covering politics, education, development and more. Read my latest stories here.

I've also contributed to PublicSource, Pittsburgh City Paper, The Pitt News and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Sticklers might point out that I grew up in Plum, not Pittsburgh, before moving to the city to attend the University of Pittsburgh. I studied political science, but got another education through The Pitt News as a columnist, opinions editor and, eventually, reporter.
I really got hooked on journalism about halfway through school as I uncovered the consequences of Pittsburgh's failures to reform its rental laws in an investigation for the Post-Gazette.

The lessons I learned about connecting with sources and holding power to account have guided my work since, from probing profiles to spot news to hard-hitting special reports.

Besides journalism, I'm fond of morning runs, cooking ambitious evening meals and cheering for Pittsburgh's sports team — even if they hurt me sometimes.
